You KNOW a month in which we attend the first bat mitzvah of our lives won't be a dull one!
Meghan's friend Lindsey made her bat mitzvah, and Lindsey's parents were kind (crazy?) enough to invite our whole family. We were kind (sensible?) enough to get a baby sitter for Mikey. This turned out to be a good move, as the temple was close enough to railroad tracks that we could hear trains roaring by throughout the ceremony: millennia of history and tradition don't stand a chance next to a crazed train nut. The ceremony was so moving, and the celebration after it so fun, that we hope we'll score a similar invite before another 42 years elapse. If you are Jewish and reading this, please consider inviting us to your next one!
Last year Mikey played the cymbals in his class play (photos at top of this link). This year, he had a MUCH more significant role, playing an anemone in the Ocean Explorer production they did. As Irving Berlin once wrote so presciently, "Yesterday they told you you would not go far, that night you open, and there you are..." He's still waiting for the star on his dressing room.
Katie was really looking forward to this once-every-three-years scouting event, kind of like most people look forward to root canal work. She and the girls brightened up considerably, when on the day the event began, flooding caused most of the roads to the site to be closed. The roads opened though, and the event happened - and everyone had a great time!
